Collaborative Data Use for the Common Good: Public Administration, Private Sector, and Civil Society in Dialogue
Client: Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society & Institut für partizipatives Gestalten
How can data-driven insights empower citizens to make informed decisions that shape their communities? In collaboration with the Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society, I designed and facilitated an immersive, participatory process to explore this question, using air quality in Berlin as a case study.
To bridge the gap between data, policy, and public engagement, I developed a Living Lab—an innovative format blending strategic design, civic participation, and speculative future scenarios. This experience guided participants through a real-world political decision-making process, engaging them both cognitively and emotionally.
My Role & Approach
- Strategic & Experience Design – Designed the immersive format to simulate public discourse, scientific evaluation, and policy deliberation.
- Facilitation & Organizational Transformation – Created a structured yet dynamic environment that enabled diverse stakeholders—public sector officials, private sector actors, and civil society members—to engage in meaningful dialogue.
- Agile & Participatory Methods – Used interactive storytelling and role-playing to mirror real-life deliberation, ensuring that insights generated could inform policy and governance strategies.
- Speculative & Immersive Engagement – Actors facilitated discussions by representing diverse political perspectives, while speculative scenarios helped participants visualize the long-term impact of different policy choices.
- Impact & Research Integration – Led the event production, execution, and post-experience evaluation, collecting qualitative insights that fed into ongoing research and policy development.
By integrating participatory theater, data-driven research, and public sector decision-making, this project transformed complex civic issues into tangible, engaging experiences, fostering informed public participation and data literacy.

Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport - Optimizing the Nationwide Broadband Funding Process
Client: Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport & DigitalService GmbH des Bundes
Germany’s nationwide broadband funding program is a critical initiative to enhance digital infrastructure. However, the complexity of the application process and the usability of online funding platforms posed challenges for funding recipients. To streamline the process and improve user experience, I designed and led a six-month design sprint based on Design Thinking and agile methodologies.
My Role & Approach
- Strategic Design – Facilitated a human-centered process to align funding workflows and digital platforms with the needs of users, making project execution more efficient and accessible.
- Agile Transformation Coaching – Introduced Design Thinking and agile principles to the Federal Ministry’s team, equipping them with hands-on experience in iterative problem-solving and user-centered service design.
- User Research & Stakeholder Engagement – Conducted a qualitative survey with 14 funding recipients and a nationwide quantitative survey, uncovering key pain points in the funding process.
- Co-Creation & Service Design – Led two co-creation workshops with funding recipients from four federal states, generating four concrete solution ideas to enhance the funding platform and workflow.
- Prototyping & Testing – Developed clickable prototypes and mockups for two of the most promising ideas, which were tested and refined in collaboration with project partners and ministry staff.
By combining strategic design, facilitation, and agile transformation, this project not only improved the usability of the funding platforms but also introduced a new mindset of innovation and user-centered service delivery within the ministry. The results provided actionable recommendations and hands-on tools for optimizing broadband funding at a national scale and are currently being implemented.

Your Data Mirror - An interactive storytelling exposing political manipulation on Instagram
Client: Interactive Media Foundation & NEEEU Spaces GmbH
How can young people become more aware of the ways their personal data is used for political manipulation on social media? In collaboration with the Psychometrics Centre at the University of Cambridge, Tactical Tech, Ag-prop, Interactive Media Foundation, and NEEEU Spaces GmbH, we developed Your Data Mirror—a digital tool that educates young audiences about the mechanisms of data collection and its societal impact.
My Role & Approach
- Strategic Design – Designed and facilitated a six-week sprint, applying agile methodologies and rapid prototyping to refine ideas in close collaboration with teenage participants.
- User Research & Participatory Testing – Engaged young users in an iterative process to test and improve the tool, ensuring its relevance, clarity, and impact.
- Facilitation & Creative Innovation – Created a dynamic environment where interdisciplinary teams could co-create an engaging digital learning experience that resonates with youth audiences.
The result was the initial concept for Your Data Mirror, which later evolved into an award-winning platform that empowers young people to critically engage with data privacy, targeted political messaging, and digital ethics.

Germany’s First Citizens’ Assembly on “Nutrition in Transition”
Client: Deutscher Bundestag & Institut für partizipatives Gestalten
On May 10, 2023, members of the German Bundestag decided that the first Citizens’ Assembly would focus on the topic: “Nutrition in Transition: Between Personal Responsibility and Governmental Tasks.”
As Germany’s first national Citizens’ Assembly, this initiative brought together a diverse group of participants to deliberate on the future of nutrition policy, balancing personal responsibility and governmental regulation. The assembly tackled issues such as health protection, climate impact, food production, labeling, and animal welfare standards, shaping recommendations for policymakers.
My Role & Approach
- Moderation – Led and facilitated small-group discussions over a three-month period, ensuring constructive dialogue and inclusive participation in both virtual and in-person sessions.
The Citizens’ Assembly convened from September 2023 to January 2024 and culminated in the presentation of a Citizen Report to the Bundestag on February 20, 2024. By bridging participatory democracy with policymaking, this initiative demonstrated new ways of integrating citizen voices into national decision-making.

Blackbox Archaeology
Client: LWL Museum of Archaeology (Herne), German Mining Museum (Bochum), LWL Roman Museum
In an era of overwhelming complexity, how can we develop the skills to navigate uncertainty? Can archaeology—by uncovering the past—help us better understand contradictions and change?
To explore these questions, the LWL Museum of Archaeology, the German Mining Museum, and the LWL Roman Museum collaborated to develop innovative digital formats that make archaeological practices tangible and engaging. Using Virtual and Augmented Reality, the project aimed to reimagine museum storytelling, enhance public engagement, and introduce new ways of working within cultural institutions.
My Role & Approach
- Facilitation & Leadership Development – Designed and led eight workshops over three years, covering topics such as new leadership approaches, creativity techniques, conflict resolution, and human-centered design in the museum sector.
- Immersive & Participatory Experience Design – Helped shape interactive digital applications, narratives, and games through co-creation formats that brought museum professionals and visitors together.
- User-Centered Innovation – Conducted two workshops with visitors, enabling direct public engagement in the design of new museum experiences and digital storytelling tools.
By integrating agile methodologies, human-centered design, and digital media, this project empowered museum teams to embrace innovation and rethink audience engagement. Supported by the Federal Cultural Foundation under the Kultur Digital program, Blackbox Archaeology serves as a model for future-oriented cultural transformation.
